Purpose

PURPOSE By: Patsy Weiser

Many people in today’s society are facing each day without a purpose. They feel as if their lives are meaningless and may even wonder why they were born. This goes for Christians as well as non-Christians.

The best cure for this mindset is to focus our attention on the needs of others rather than on ourselves. God created each of us with specific talents, gifts, and callings. Our lives should not be wandering generalities but meaningful specifics.

Psalm 82: 3-4 says, “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

James 1:27 confirms this by saying, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

What a difference we could make in this world if we all just did a little to help the needy. There are many individuals that are in true need today in our country as well as in foreign lands. There are many great organizations that answer this call to defend the cause of the weak and the fatherless. I encourage you to seek the Lord if He would lead you to support a worthy cause such as an orphanage or homeless shelter, etc. Check with your local churches or charity groups to find a project you feel comfortable supporting. Helping others in this way will definitely add purpose to your life!
